Insomnia: A common sleeping problem everyone faces

insomniaInsomnia is one sleeping problem that has continued throughout my life. In fact, I would say that mostly everyone experienced insomnia episodes atleast once throughout their life. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to reduce the symptoms of insomnia.

What is insomnia?

Insomnia is a sleep disorder that makes it difficult to initiate or maintain sleep. People with insomnia have one or more of the following common symptoms:

  • Difficult to fall asleep at night.
  • Waking up many times throughout the night and having trouble falling back to sleep.
  • Waking up too early in the morning or before you have gotten a full nights rest.
  • Feeling unrefreshed, even after a full nights sleep.
  • Experience daytime problems/announcesĀ  like fatigue; sleepiness; problems with mood, concentration; accidents at work or while driving, etc.

Solutions that worked to cure my insomnia

My mom, believe it or not, always suggested very minor things to me that could fix my insomnia, but I always shrugged them off. I always thought to myself, there is no way that something as simple as maintaining a constant sleeping schedule would help with my insomnia.

I always found it hard to stay on a consistent sleep schedule. Some days I would go to bed at 6am in the morning, some nights at 2am in the morning. What I found out is that jumping around like this really screws up your natural sleeping clock in your body. Even when you are asleep, your body is not used to being at rest during a certain hour if you are constantly changing your sleeping time at night.

Exercise works!

Few people want to believe that exercise cures insomnia, quite frankly because most people hate working out. To set the record straight, working out works wonders on insomnia problems.

I’m not saying that you will be falling asleep perfectly if you work out like a fiend the same day. If you keep working out consistently throughout a month to two month period, you will find that the quality of sleep you get goes up insanely.

There are many other tips for improving your sleep quality. Check out the rest of my blog posts for good ways to get a better sleep at night.
